5125 years of Long Count #maya2012

Why exactly December 21st, 2012? Because according to the Long Count of the Mayan Calendar, a period of 1,872,000 days equal to 5,125 years, is coming to an end. The lapse of time which began in 3113 b.C. when the Mayan civilization was born, ends in 2012 a.C. The ancient Mayas used three calendars: the “tzolkin”, a “sacred calendar” made up by 13 months of 20 days, was used for magic and propitiatory rites, while Haab was the solar calendar (18 months made of 20 days). They were represented by two cog-wheels that intersected every 52 years.
